Song lyrics that mean so much

I heard this song again in the car recently and within seconds the tears were rolling down my face. It seemed to sum up to me the situation I was in when I felt I could no longer stand living in London any more and had just moved down to Somerset. It reminded me of turning up at my friend Sarts' house and telling him how I'd just had to get away. It makes me cry just reading it now.

Baker Street by Gerry Rafferty

Windin' your way down in Baker Street,
Light in your head and dead on your feet.
Well another crazy day,
You'll drink the night away
And forget about everything.

This city desert makes you feel so cold.
It's got so many people but it's got no soul
And it's taken you so long
To find out you were wrong
When you thought you had everything.

You used to think that it was so easy
You used to say that it was so easy
But you're tryin'
You're tryin' now.

Another year and then you'll be happy,
Just one more year and then you'll be happy,
But you're cryin'
You're cryin' now.

Way down the street
there's a lad in his place.
He opens the door
he's got that look on his face
And he asks you where you've been.
You tell him who you've seen
And you talk about anything.

He's got this dream about buyin' some land.
He's gonna give up the booze
and the one night stands.
And then he'll settle down
in a quiet little town
And forget about everything.

But you know he'll always keep movin'
You know he's never gonna stop movin.
Cos he's rollin'
He's a rollin' stone

And when you wake up it's a new mornin'
The sun is shinin'
it's a new morning
You're goin'
You're goin' home.

Thank you Gerry. Is there a song that really connects with your life and feelings as this one does for me?

Do share....

My song echoes Bruv's feelings as it too sums up my feelings moving out of an unhappy marriage down to Somerset. Both songs speak of the fear and excitement of moving to a totally different home. What a coincidence between Westhill and West St!

Summer on the Westhill by the
Kings Of Convenience

From my seat I see the fields move by,
colours strong- it's been a long, long time.
It's the first time I see Summer on the Westhill.
I lean back and let my eyes just go
floating now where they want to float.
They seem to take to the horizon.
Now I know there is a world beyond
the small place I was coming from.
I feel at home here
in the middle of nowhere.
I will never know the names
of these places that I travel through
to reach the coastline.
I've been told I will be there in time.
Please oceancloud,
let there be no storm on the crossing below.

Just to help any newbies, if you have a favourite song, just type its name plus the word lyrics into Google and it will invariably find the words for you, then just copy and paste them into your comments box.

This is one of the sweetest love songs. It reminds me of my first French boyfriend Pascall who I met when I was thirty, I had a very bad crush on him. When I came back from seeing him in France, and was missing him, this is the song I used to listen to. Ironically it is also one of Manny's favourite songs and he used to play it with his ex - spooky heh!

Have I told you lately that I love you
Have I told you there's no one above you
Fill my heart with gladness
Take away my sadness
Ease my troubles, that's what you do

Oh the morning sun in all its glory
Greets the day with hope and comfort too
And you fill my life with laughter
You can make it better
Ease my troubles that's what you do

There's a love that's divine
And it's yours and it's mine
Like the sun at the end of the day
We should give thanks and pray to the One

Have I told you lately that I love you
Have I told you there's no one above you
Fill my heart with gladness
Take away my sadness
Ease my troubles, that's what you do

There's a love that's divine
And it's yours and it's mine
And it shines like the sun
At the end of the day we will give thanks
And pray to the One

Have I told you lately that I love you
Have I told you there's no one above you
Fill my heart with gladness
Take away my sadness
Ease my troubles, that's what you do

Take away my sadness
Fill my life with gladness
Ease my troubles that's what you do
Fill my life with gladness
Take away my sadness
