Last night I went with my friend Kay to the latest Nature's Way evening at Roadwater village hall. The subject was Shamanism and five rhythm dancing. It was presented by two ladies Elaine and Angela.
Elaine led us through the tools required to undertake shamanic journeys. The first was the Talking Stick which is used to differentiate the lead speaker during group meetings so that the stick passes around and everyone gets an equal chance to speak. The second was the Sage Smudge stick which is used at the beginning of a meeting to get rid of negative energies. This is used in conjunction with a feather, ideally an Eagles feather. Finally the drum which the group leader bangs to begin the journey to find the answer to a question you raise, known as the Intention. The journeys either go to the Underworld where the power animals are or to the Upper World where you can engage with spirit guides. Or you can journey to find missing bits of your soul.
At the end of the talk, Elaine led us through a short Shamanic journey with the drums. I kept picturing a snake around my neck. Elaine felt this was to do with transformation and life changes.
The second part of the evening was Angela Wood's talk about 5 rhythm dancing. This is a form of creative dancing with the purpose of creating positive energies and letting go of inhibitions. I found this very invigorating and helps you get in touch with yourself. The last piece of music was the theme from Gladiator which has always been a favourite of mine and represented stillness. There will be regular sessions from now on in the village hall which I will definitely look into. All in all the evening was a big success after last months flop. And we went home feeling revitalised.

Your evening sounds so interesting. It would be nice to have events like this over here in New Orleans, but with the current situation, it doesn't look like that's going to happen. New Orleans is the #1 murder capital in the USA. This year we've had 22 murders so far. And our city is getting smaller & smaller because people are fed up with our governments ignorance to help pull us out of the ditches of Hurricane Katrina.
I think events like the one you experienced last night would lift many of the lives here. Although we do have some wonderful concerts and art showings happening, the ones you & Bruv speak of would be fun to attend. I'm going to have to look into it.
